I had an experience over the past weekend that really brought home to me what a powerful thing choice is. It was something that came up unexpectedly and the initial reaction was frustration as I felt trapped, caught off-guard and out of my depth. I have been in a really good space lately where I felt like I was balanced and on even keel. To suddenly have my whole world tilted upside-down was disconcerting and so, to try to regain equilibrium, I backed off and took time-out for a short while. I noticed that the moment I chose to back off and give myself space, the realisations about what was really going on appeared. In retrospect, I now realise that the gift I had given myself was a pause of thought and activity. Whereas my logical thinking mind was trying to reason things out and going into panic mode, my heart centre held the stillness I needed. In returning my awareness to my heart centre, the Truth of who I am could provide the answers. This gave me the power to choose in the next moment…and the next…and the next…what was most appropriate for me.
What we choose determines our reality and also leads to either an action or non-action; each with their own consequences. How we make our choice is largely determined by previous experiences and the belief systems we have around those experiences. Our beliefs are one of many factors which determine the quality of the life we lead and therefore also the choices we make.
It is up to us to:
- Become aware of what we are thinking / believing
- Notice whether it is a healthy or disempowering way of viewing ourselves and our lives
- If it is not serving us in an empowering way, we then need to choose whether we wish to keep it or change it
- How long we take to do this is also a matter of choice…
- Seek the help needed to debunk old baggage and belief systems
So my result from taking the time to make a conscious choice has been more empowering than what I initially thought. I actually had no expectations of any outcome at all and yet what has been revealed in the 3 days since that moment of choice has been astounding. I am really grateful to that wiser part of me that urged me to be kind to myself and put myself first.
I also have an intrinsic knowing that things will turn out better than what I could ever imagine because I put myself first and gave myself the time to be empowered. In this day and age where one of the most common phrases is “I don’t have enough time”; I just proved to myself (once again) that the time spent on myself is the best time I could ever spend as the rewards are waiting for me.
Anything and Everything is possible!
